IBMC graduate, Dustin Clutterbuck, to ride cross-country to raise money for cancer research

When Fort Collins-based cyclist Dustin Clutterbuck lost his friend to lung cancer last December, he knew he had to start the dream they always talked about: riding their bicycles across the country.Dustin Clutterbuck

He won’t have a chase car. He will rely on his long-haul Novara Safari touring bike loaded with all his supplies – tipping the scales at almost 100 pounds – and a map leading him to Daytona Beach, Fla. And he’ll have a cause; he is riding to bring awareness to cancer research and seeks to raise $10,000 for the American Cancer Society, a national voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer.

“We continuously talked about the idea of riding across the USA,” Clutterbuck said. “I was bouncing around the idea in my head, but when he passed away, I knew it was a dream I had to accomplish.”

Clutterbuck met Les De Moss during the last stage of his battle with lung cancer, where he helped De Moss and his family do home improvements and yard clean-up after their basement was flooded. Their love of cycling helped create a special bond and made the loss that much harder for Clutterbuck.

Wearing De Moss’ cycling jersey in tribute, Clutterbuck and his cycling partner, Andrew Hubi, will kick off their cross-country tour at 7:30 a.m. September 1 at the IBMC College Fort Collins campus, 3842 S. Mason Street, where Clutterbuck graduated from the Therapeutic Massage program and now works as a Licensed Massage Therapist at its Massage Clinic. IBMC College has also donated to his cause and has become one of his main supporters for this momentous ride.

Hubi is riding for his own cause, hoping to surprise his aunt, who has ALS — most commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and help raise money for her and ALS research.

“If I can complete this challenge, I can conquer all challenges that come my way,” Clutterbuck said. “We learn the best when we take our experiences outside our comfort zones.”

His time at IBMC pushed him past his comfort zone for the better – he was close to becoming homeless when he signed up for classes – and he hopes this journey will inspire future students to push past their limits and fears.

“This tour is important because it’s about connecting with people all over the country, promoting community service and cancer awareness,” Clutterbuck said. “With all the negativity in the world, this is a cause our community can be proud of and focus on.”

The community will be able to follow Clutterbuck’s and Hubi’s journey online through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram: twitter.com/bicyclepirate, facebook.com/fightcancerbiketour, www.instagram.com/thebicyclepirate.

The public can also donate to Clutterbuck’s cause online through his GoFundMe page: www.gofundme.com/dustinclutterbuck. Clutterbuck has raised $1,170 or his $10,000 goal through GoFundMe.

Training for a New Career was a Family Affair for These New Parents

$

Training for a rewarding career was a dream of Porsha and Kenneth La Fleur of Colorado Springs. It was time to stop dreaming and start doing. They took a leap and never looked back.

One day, the couple decided to make the life-changing decision to enroll in college classes at IBMC College in Colorado Springs, CO. Porsha had a passion for making people smile and chose the Dental Assisting program, while Kenneth desired to help patients and work in a fast-paced medical field. He became a college student in the Medical Assisting program.

During this couple’s time at IBMC College Colorado Springs Campus, they worked, went to college, and soon found out they were expecting a sweet baby boy about half-way through their respective programs.
These parents-to-be wanted to give their little one the best life possible and kept at pursuing an education, despite the fatigue of “being on the go” all the time. They recalled back to moments where it was difficult, but ultimately knowing they needed to make a change in their lives for themselves and for their child, kept these two coming back to learn each day.

They recalled back to the many sacrifices they made, yet smile upon the fact that it was all worth it.

Three weeks before walking across the stage at Graduation in the Spring of 2016, Porsha went into labor and delivered a healthy baby boy by the name of Royce. Even more amazing, Baby Royce joined the couple at Graduation. Not only did he see his mommy and daddy graduate together, he was a part of the ceremony and stole the show. He accompanied them on-stage as they walked arm in arm and were handed their diplomas.

It was truly a family affair. As little Royce grows up, he will soon come to realize just how important he was to their success, and he has two great role models he can proudly call his parents.

Kenneth plans to work in an emergency room setting after completing his externship. He is currently partnered with IBMC College’s Career Services Team for career placement assistance. Porsha plans to take a little time off to raise the baby. Once he is a little older, she is looking forward to working in a dental practice.

When asked about more children, Baby Royce may soon have additional playmates. Porsha comes from a big family and hopes to expand her own to 10+ children, while Kenneth is set on two kids. Maybe they will find a good compromise. Whatever number that may be, the future is certainly bright for this happy couple and their growing family.

IBMC is now enrolling for day and evening classes at the Colorado Springs college campus! To learn more about life-changing career training and potential childcare resources, fill-out the form above or call 1-800-NEW-CAREER today.

A Massage Career Offers Vast Opportunities

$

Have you ever contemplated working in the healing arts? A massage career is a great choice for people who enjoy working with their hands, helping people and desire to work in a medical field.

U.S. News and World Report is famous for making lists and it’s a common source to find out the “best” of just about everything. The career of massage therapist made their 100 best jobs list at #62, and was #28 of all healthcare jobs.   Primarily, massage therapists get their occupational pride from the fact that they are able to make people feel physically better, and often mentally better, nearly every time they go to work. Besides this obvious perk, there are several reasons why this is a great choice for the right person.

The Job Offers Variety There’s a lot more to massage therapy than rubbing someone’s shoulders. There are several different types of massage to explore, including orthopedic, deep tissue, acupressure, sports massage, hot stone therapy, Swedish massage and more.

Massage Therapists Serve Diverse Clientele Massage therapists have a chance to meet a wide variety of people when they work. They work with athletes, business people, elderly people, those recovering from accidents, those who need stress relief and more. Each experience is different, and brings a new story.

Massage programs at IBMC CollegeIt Doesn’t Take Forever to Become a Massage Therapist Rather than spending four or more years in college, a massage career may be obtained in as little as 15 months at IBMC College. The Massage Therapy Diploma program offers traditional medical and science courses on subjects such as medical terminology and various courses in anatomy and physiology. Students also complete a 5-week externship – allowing them to gain valuable experience providing massages to the public – prior to graduating from their program.

Massage Therapy Can Provide True Healing The aches, pains, and stiffness that builds up in people’s bodies from everyday life makes them more vulnerable to serious injuries with a lasting impact. Massage feels good because it puts things back the way they are supposed to be.  While doctors rush through 10-15 minute appointments, a massage appointment usually takes about an hour and often brings psychological benefits to the person simply because they are exposed to individual time and attention they may not even have realized they needed.

It’s an Investment in the Future While no specific training can guarantee a job, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Massage Therapy is a pretty good option for those who want to be able to work consistently. The projected employment growth in the field until 2022 is near 23% — much faster than normal. A certain amount of patience and compassion are necessary for a massage therapist, but for those who have what it takes it can be a very fulfilling career.

Are you ready to see if a massage career may be right for you? Fill-out the form above today to learn more! You may also call 1-800-NEW-CAREER for information.
